Product Review: Aerogarden Sprout

Ok so I came across a brand new, unopened Aerogarden Sprout for $29 on EBay. That price is pretty reasonable and I'm looking for ways to grow in my poorly lit house, so at that price I will give it a go. Please remember I am not paid by Aerogarden. These are normally around $50.

As you can see, the unit is quite small, as it only supports three pods. There is an additional grow deck that allows you to start up to 15 pods for transplanting.

These units typically come with a seed pod kit that matches the unit and the number of pods it supports, along with grow domes and nutrient solution, and includes a pump, base, reservoir and filter (usually found in the pump). You can also make your own pods quite easily. They can be cleaned with Aerogarden cleanser or food grade peroxide and paper towels. Maintenance is quite simple if you remember to trim the roots periodically and change and add water periodically. Also there are some plants, like brassicas and herbs, that need to be trimmed periodically.

Do I recommend this unit? It is quite small, but yes I do recommend it. In fact, if you are starting out in hydroponics, this is a great unit to start with.

Product Review: Back to the Roots Kitchen Herb Garden

First off, let me state that I am not getting any payment from Back to the Roots. What you are seeing is an honest review of this particular kit. I do not have good indoor lighting so please keep that in mind.

First off, the kit has 3 cans, growing medium, and 3 packs of seeds. Mine were herbs. The only thing you add is water and a light source. And it's a minute amount of water. And there are no drainage holes in the can. Considering that it is herbs, they're kinda shallow-rooted. I followed the directions and set them up under a grow light. I didn't see a date on the seeds. And only one pack of seeds germinated, but they were leggy (this could be because of the height of the grow light). I honestly cannot recommend this product.
