Is This a Good Guy or a Bad Guy?
So I went to work in my garden. There is a stump from a long-gone oak tree. I bumped into it and...ewww...this guy showed his face. He's not aggressive. He's just ugly and slimy. And he's moving away from me. But I don't know what he is or if I need to welcome him or introduce him to Charlotte, who I'm sure would consider him a tasty meal in preparation for her spider babies. So the first thing I do is take a picture of him. Picture This says he's a grub and grubs are bad...you'll see them in spring. The problem is we are in fall. Not spring. I have to rule this one out. So then I go on Facebook and post in a bug ID group. They say it's a stag beetle or Bessie Beetle. Both are non aggressive and are good in the garden. So then I ran the photo by an expert on stag beetles. I'm still waiting on that reply. They both like most wood so I'm letting him stay.
